35mm Love

Well last week I finally decided to use the 35mm lens I received back in November of last year. Lets just say for a lack of better terms, WOW! I absolutely loved using this lens.

It is known that the wider the angle of lens, the more distortion you see within portraits. With this lens and the shoot I completed, I did not see the distortion so much in comparison to my 50mm (maybe later on I will write up a comparison blog between the two lenses). It may be because I don’t yet know which angles to work to get the exaggerated distortion look, or because I didn’t really analyze the differences between a portrait from each lens.

Anyways. I scouted a location in Toronto that I always wanted to shoot at night, and then I found the perfect subject to do the shoot with. The background allowed for all kinds of light and distortion play—With this, I just knew I wanted to use the 35mm for the shoot. I met up with @diegodinii at the retro themed restaurant on Tuesday evening last week. He showed me some of the outfits he brought, and we picked THE perfect outfit for the vibe of the shoot we were going for. I wanted retro, I wanted film/faded editing, I wanted bokehlicious images— and well, we got just that! Plus, I had no idea my cheap old Kia would make for such a good prop/background for images!

I know for sure I will be experimenting with this lens a lot more in the coming months.

See below some of the images from the shoot! We did not even shoot for 1 hour and were able to get such diverse, amazing shots.
