BTS: My First Music Video Shoot
On April 8th I got to experience my first behind the scenes photography session. I covered a music video production for Davy Sage (@davysagemusic), an amazing artist in the GTA. He reached out to me to take some photos of him for promotional material and to cover the behind the scenes of his music video shoot— Of course I said yes!
Alongside Davy and his videographer Prince (@princekaiy_a_production), we worked for an hour to create beautiful content. While Davy was jamming and Prince was getting an arm workout in (from holding such heavy equipment to shoot video), I was hiding behind the scenes snapping photos and a few videos of it all. Between sets, I would pull Davy aside and take some awesome portraits for him to use. Lets just say, he was getting hyped with the previews of it all!
Covering events and behind the scenes hasn’t generally my forte— it is not something I have done often. I have covered a couple of small weddings and birthday parties that I enjoyed, but my main experience is in portraiture. With covering the behind the scenes, I could combine my love for portraiture with event coverage. This also gave me the opportunity to shadow a videographer—something I may add to my services in the future— and see all the effort and hard work that is put into making a music video. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and hope to do more of it in the future.
What made this opportunity extra enjoyable? The environment was fun and airy and filled with fantastic music to jam to! 💃🏻
@davysagemusic, cant wait to see the full video for “Let Me Know”, it is a banger 😍
Much love, Emily
