Toronto Culture and Expression

As I mentioned in my previous publications, I grew up in a very small country town. I cannot say 100%, but majority of the people in my area were Canadian— and classic ol’ country boys and girls at that. There was not much diversity— what I knew as a Canadian is essentially all I knew. I did not know much about the rest of the world.

That all changed when I moved to Toronto. That is why I love it here. The diversity, the cultures, the personal expressions. You can find someone from every country in this small little city— and food, you can find every country’s food here. You can find someone representing any culture around every corner you walk. And you can find people expressing their identity and personality through their clothing— LOVE IT!

I have met some of the most amazing people since I moved to Toronto. Majority of the people I meet here were not born here, but we all call it home. One of my biggest supporters is from Mauritius, and I am so happy to call her my friend. I have been able to introduce pumpkin carving, ice skating, and tobogganing to some of my friends within the past few months. I even gained so many Latin friends that I am now learning Spanish!

And the best part of all of this? Not only do I develop relationships with people from all over the world, I get opportunities to photograph them— their amazing clothing, their traditions, and their memories.

All in all, I love learning about others cultures, their religions, their childhoods. I have learned so much from so many people here, it is astonishing. I try to take my learnings from Toronto and bring them home to my family and friends so that they can see what I see, and teach them what I have learned.
